Wildlife Land Trust: an arm of the Humane Society

June 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Today I was listening to a talk show on the radio and heard this advertisement for the Wildlife Land Trust.  The ad talked about protecting your land from development and human encroachment, but then tossed in this nice little tidbit about protecting your land from hunting and trapping forever, which raised my eyebrows, especially hearing this on am talk radio shows.

Note, the Wildlife Land Trust is an affiliate of the Humane Society of the United States who’s wants to abolish hunting, trapping and the like.

The Wildlife Land Trust apparently approaches private landowners who are being solicited to sell their land to developers or anyone else, and offers to have it “donated” to them to establish it as a wildlife sanctuary, with the side effect of banning activities on it. They are free to do what they want however just be aware that this is likely another attempt to further reduce huntable areas in our country.

Imagine you are a land owner out in the country with lots of acreage but don’t want to sell to a developer, BUT you are a normal person who loves nature but also supports hunting/fishing? Why are there not pro-wildlife management, hunting, and freedom loving organizations out there a person can turn to rather than the only options being organizations like the Wildlife Land Trust?
